TEXAPORE is JACK WOLFSKIN’s weather protection technology. TEXAPORE materials are always waterproof, windproof and breathable. TEXAPORE materials feature a sturdy combination of upper material and a weatherproof layer. This weatherproof layer may be a microporous coating, a non-porous membrane or a combination of both.
The weatherproof layer wicks moisture vapour away to the exterior.
Coatings are usually microporous. This means that the pores are large enough to allow water vapour molecules to pass through from the inside to the outside, but too small for raindrops to enter the clothing from the outside to the inside.
Membranes are often free of pores, however, in this case, the moisture vapour transmission functions in a physical/chemical way, based on molecular movement. An advantage of membranes is that they can withstand very high water pressure. There are also macroporous membranes, which are air-permeable. This allows constant exchange of air to occur, which supports and enhances the moisture vapour transmission through the membrane.
Our hybrid technology combines both coating and membrane. This combination creates a synergy effect in providing optimal water resistance and breathability.
